Look along the foundation for horizontal cracks or a "stair-step" pattern in brick or block - a thin vertical crack is usually just normal settlingStand back and check the ground slopes AWAY from the house, not toward itLook for any recent patch or repair on the foundation with no explanation offered

Water signs 3

Check every ceiling for staining, even ceilings that have been freshly paintedLook for discoloration or peeling paint near window sills and exterior doorsCheck the basement or crawlspace, if accessible, for staining or dampness

Electrical panel 3

Open the main panel and note the brand name on itWatch for "Federal Pacific Electric," "Stab-Lok," or breakers with a distinctive red stripe - a documented fire-risk brandCheck for visible rust, scorch marks, or loose wiring around the panel

Roof & attic 3
